Hewlett-Packard: Extreme Scale Computing – Upcoming Challenges and Promising Technologies

Tuesday, September 22, 2009
5:00pm - 7:00pm
Room 3016

Scale-out technologies have reached a level of maturity that has lead to broad industry adoption across multiple segments. At the leading edge of this movement are customers pushing boundaries related to scale, leading to innovations such as more efficient components, containers and ambient cooling. Among many of these vectors, efficiency has improved to the point of diminishing returns. Whats next?

This Industry Insight will explore new innovations in the datacenter ecosystem, ranging from HP Labs research in fundamental technologies (e.g. memristor, silicon photonics) through dematerialized servers and rich control plane software. These topics tie together to form a holistic view of software, hardware and facilities to optimize performance while delivering on SLAs. We will have guest speakers talk about current and future technologies, as well as advanced users who will help us assess these technologies impact. We will also look at this from the perspective of traditional enterprise customers, HPC customers and the emerging cloud datacenter customers.

Meeting the challenges of the 21st century: We need your collaborative innovations

Wednesday, September 23, 2009
4:15pm - 6:45pm
Room 3016

The 21st century is loaded with many challenges as well as opportunities to improve the overall quality of life of billions of human beings living on this fragile planet. Environmental concerns, our ability to move goods and people, education, fear of natural as well as human caused disasters and energy management are among the most serious challenging problems; on the other hand, exploration of space, entertainment and communication represent significant opportunities. In this session, several of the worlds thought leaders will share their visions on how technology innovations will lead to meaningful solutions to these issues. Join Harrison Schmitt, Jim Rice, Charles House, Terry Pierce and Gene Meieran in an interactive and informative afternoon and become inspired and allow your creativity to be sparked to help exploit these challenges and opportunities.
